Empowering Conversations: Announcing the Upcoming Release of Pillars of Peace for Students and Teachers

Creating a safe and supportive environment in schools is more important than ever. Students face challenges that affect their emotional well-being and social interactions daily. As educators, counselors, and school leaders, we need tools that help young people develop the skills to navigate conflicts and build understanding among peers. That is why I am excited to announce the upcoming release of Pillars of Peace for Students and Teachers, 2 workbooks designed with lessons for specific skills (10 Pillars) that prepare students with foundational skills for leading healing conversations and fostering peace within their communities.

Why Healing Conversations Matter in Schools

Conflict is a natural part of growing up, but how students handle disagreements can shape their future relationships and emotional health. Traditional discipline methods often focus on punishment rather than understanding. Pillars of Peace for Students and Teachers offers a different approach: teaching students the 10 leadership skills to prepare to be Peacekeepers, student-led healing conversations.

Healing conversations help students:

  • Express their feelings clearly and respectfully

  • Listen actively to others’ perspectives

  • Identify common ground despite differences

  • Collaborate on solutions that benefit everyone involved

When students learn to communicate with kindness and honesty, they become leaders who can influence positive change in their schools.

What You Will Find in Pillars of Peace

Two books complete the curriculum materials: one for students and one for teachers. The student workbook contains lessons and activities that for each Pillar and the Teacher Pacing Guide is complete with circle discussion prompts and lesson plans for each Pillar.

The books encourage collaboration between students and teachers, making peace-building a shared responsibility.

How This Book Supports Educators and School Leaders

As a youth leader, you understand the importance of equipping students with social and emotional skills. Pillars of Peace provides a resource that fits into your existing programs without overwhelming your schedule. It complements restorative practices and belonging initiatives by focusing on peer-to-peer leadership.

By using this book, you can:

  • Empower students to take ownership of their relationships

  • Reduce incidents of conflict and disciplinary referrals

  • Foster a more inclusive and supportive school environment

  • Build stronger connections between students and staff

Preparing for the Book Release

The release of Pillars of Peace for Students and Teachers is scheduled for next month. I am thrilled to share this resource with educators and school communities ready to make a difference. To prepare, consider:

  • Reviewing your current conflict resolution and social-emotional learning programs

  • Identifying staff and influential student leaders who can champion healing conversations

  • Planning workshops or reading groups around the book’s content

  • Encouraging open dialogue about the importance of peace-building skills

This book is a starting point for ongoing growth and connection.

Join the Movement Toward Peaceful Schools

I invite you to be part of this journey. When students learn to lead healing conversations, they gain confidence and compassion that extend beyond the classroom. Teachers and counselors become guides who nurture these essential life skills.

Watch for announcements about the book’s availability and opportunities for training sessions. Together, we can build school communities where every voice matters and peace is a shared goal.

Thank you for your commitment to supporting students in becoming thoughtful, caring leaders.
